Estravel sells in ten days more than what was sold in a full year.

Estravel is a travel agency in Estonia, a european country near Russia. They sold 5 thousands dirt cheap airline tickets to the USA in just ten days, while in the whole 2007 they sold 3500 airline tickets.

How  did they manage to do that?

The answer is simple. They charged for those dirt cheap airline tickets 4,000 kroons (the local currency) instead of the usual 10,000. To purchase those tickets that cost less than an half of the usual price, people started queues ouside Estravel Offices.

Sure those cheap tickets has some limitations, they are not refundable, and, in the case a passenger should change the date of travel, he has to pay a fine (which, anyway, even in this case the cost of the ticket will be lesser than 10,000), and you have to choose your destination from a list of USA cities and if you choose just one target it has to be Miami, but you can choose up to 5 targets.

Even with this limitations, Estravel maged to sell 5,000 dirt cheap airline tickets in just ten days, gaining more than 20,000,000 kroons. How did they’d manage to have such a low price we don’t know, but sure it has been a bargain for Estonian travellers willing to travel to the USA.

Ryanair under investigation by European Commission

After the cancellation of thousands of airline tickets in August, the European Commission decided to investigate if the decision from the biggest european low cost airline company to refuse travel tickets bought by customers on price comparison websites and not on Ryanair’s own website.

It is true that the airline’s  term and conditions tell that the tickets that a traveller bought outside its official website will be rejected, with no refund or notice due by the company itself, but the Commission is now trying to understand if Ryanair broke any EU rule not allowing those kind of tickets to be used.

Some said that Ryanair’s decision to don’t allow any ticket purchase outside its own website could mean the end of comparison websites. Let’s see if a decision from EU lawyer will take back to life those sites, giving more opportunity to purchase dirt cheap airline tickets to customers around the world.

Dirt Cheap Airline Tickets From Midwest

There is a new way to get dirt cheap airline tickets from Midwest Airlines.
After having added 11 more seats to each of its jets, the airline says that there will be and option for its customer to choose between more comfort, but at a major price, or sitting in narrower seats but saving money for the same flight.
This will give Midwest Airline the possibility to rise up their earnings for single flight, even in this period of no-money due to the high fuel cost.
In the rear part of the cabin, the width between the seats is now reduced by 3,5 inches, and in this way the Boing will have room for 99 travelers instead of the previous 88.
This new accomodation for the airplane seats will give customer the option to choose if they want to spend more to have more legroom, heading toward the front of the airplane where there will be less narrow seats.
Instead a traveler that wants to save and don’t mind to seat in narrower seats will have to head toward the back of the airplane where he will find those narrower seats that will permit him to have a dirt cheap airline ticket for that travel. The name for this particular tipe of seating is Midwest Class and this option will be available after the second half of October.
The seating plan was announced last year, but due to software difficulties the possibility to choose between two option of seats was not ready until now.
So what we have now from Midwest Airlines is the possibility of buying two different type of airline tickets from a single, all-coach cabin airplane.
In this way the airline will gain more money. attracting the kind of traveler that seems predominat this days: the one on a budget.

So here is another way to get some dirt cheap airline ticket.

Will You Find Dirt Cheap Airline Tickets in 2009?

In this period of the year, many people start thinking about their Christmas Vacations, knowing that, as for a lot of other human activities, to find dirt cheap airline tickets, you have to think well in advance in order to gain an advantage above other competitors and to find the best tickets before someone else grab them.
During this year we have saw the cost of fuel rising up to levels never known before, and so have done the costs for a airline ticket.  We know that internal US airfares has increased by 10 percent in the second quarter of 2008 over the second quarter of 2007. International aifare has grown even more, climbing up to a 11 percent when compared to the same time of the year 2007. Eevn if a lot of people is starting to get thei airline tickets following methods that are explained here, like booking in advance, buy from low cost companies and so on, high fuel prices, cuts in the capacity of airplanes and new fares taxes, are driving up the costs of flying. Anyway, advance purchase is, in most instances, a sure tactic to save money. More than 80 percent of  airline tickets are purchased by discounted coach fares. It is almost incredible to think that only a shift from a 7-day-advance  to a 14-day-advance can lead to a save more than 15 percent of airline ticket price.

So, even with the increased price of fuel, and other rising prices factors, it is still possible to get some dirt cheap airline tickets.

In 2009 things should get better: A major american airline company, Southwest Airline, has published its prices for the first three months of the next year, and it is possible to observe a drop in prices.  Possibly this will lead other airline companies to frop their prices for the same period, making it eay for a customer to gain cheap airline tickets during the first quarter of 2009. Southwest Airline, unlike many other airlines, permits only a six month advance reservation. It is possible, so, that after March, prices will rise again.

So, if you are planning a trip to happen in the first three months of 2009, some savings will await you. If you have not yet decided when to fly, maybe you shoyld consider the first quarter of 2009 as a good period of the year to get some dirt cheap airline tickets.

Should the terrible Madrid’s air crash make you renounce to use a Low Cost?

First of all i want to express to the relatives of victims of the terrible air crash happened at Madrid Barajas our most sincere condolences, death is always a devastating event, and when many people that were going to enjoy their deserved holiday die, the impression is even stronger.
But the consideration that I want to do about this terrible incident is another: I heard from different sources that to be under indictment are the low cost airlines that can not guarantee the safety level of traditional airlines and thus one should avoid to travel with these companies.

I’m not sure that this is a fully right idea.
It’s true that in some cases it would be better to avoid a low cost, for example, if you make long journeys, or if you must carry animals. But airlines that offer dirt cheap airline tickets must follow the same standards of safety and maintenance of other companies.
Certainly, they have to save money in order to be able to offer tickets at low prices, but the savings should come from cutting some comforts on board and from enhancing the personnel costs, not by cutting maintenance. This is true whether the airline is in good shape from a financial point of view.

Unfortunately, this incident tells us that the company involved was not so financially good began to make cuts to staff and probably was responsible for the violation of some safety rules.

This terrible accident has taught us one thing: if you want to save on airline tickets, in addition to the usual advice that you have to keep in mind: book in advance, check on the web and so on, from today onwards, first, you must ensure, perhaps reading the newspapers and economic news, that the airline you have chosen is in a time of economic difficulty, and therefore may not be very safe. Of course, this conduct should be the duty of organs that regulate air transport, to check that each airline meets safety standards, but, unfortunately, this does not always happen, and, sadly, maybe the customers will have to think even about this side of air travel, if they want to take-off with greater security.

These are my thoughts after the terrible accident in Madrid.
